We are dedication to using microscopy and other specialized imaging techniques to capture photographs of life. To accomplish our goals, we carryout expeditions throughout the world to remote and interesting locations with microscopes in hand. Sometimes we are on a sailboat, other times on a mountainside with our backpacks, or in a jeep going over rough terrain. We collect flowers and other botanical materials by taking small clippings. In the aquatic habitats we use dive gear, plankton nets, and other sampling equipment to collect marine and freshwater organisms to image under our microscopes and then deliver them back to their natural environment where they thrive. Along the way, we also use DSLR cameras with various lens to collect still images and videos of nature. We use GoPros, drones, and other cool gear to help captures a unique perspective of the life and world around us.
The microscopes are extremely simple to use. The basic setup consists of the microscope itself, a high-end digital SLR, a laptop computer, and some adaptors and cords that connect the system together. Then, you place a specimen under the microscope, focus the microscopes lens (objective) and snap the shot. In this way we obtained the images in the website gallery. We typically use two types of microscopes. Stereo microscopes to look a features from about 1-35 mm in length and compound microscopes to look at small planktonic organisms that may be a single cell. Below are some of our team members using the microscopes on location. Hope you enjoy.
